More Than Just Business As Usual

By Sam Y., Gold Standard Staff Writer

Aureus Medical has been an industry leader in providing healthcare staffing for many years. Our reputation as one of the most progressive companies in the staffing industry has set us apart from the rest. What sometimes gets forgotten in the middle of all this is the human face behind the company.

The next time you’re on the phone with your Aureus representative, don’t be surprised. They may have recently helped a young child have the chance to develop their soccer skills, served a family a much-needed hot meal, or been a very open ear to a friend in need. At Aureus, we believe people come first. Our employees put this message into action both on and off the job!

Many of our employees commit untold hours of voluntary service in their local communities and neighborhoods. Besides being very dedicated to the field employees under their care, our recruiters and staffing supervisors also ‘double’ as volunteer instructors, youth counselors, coaches, and soup kitchen servers, to name just a few. That good will and spirit is the heart and soul of who we are, both as a company and a family.

Avoiding the Snack Demons!

People who aspire to healthy eating habits are often sabotaged by temptations at work. This is especially true in healthcare, where goodies seem to be everywhere - from doughnuts in staff meetings to birthday celebrations, lunches on the run in the cafeteria, and holiday potlucks.

How do you deal with these yum-fests without watching the scale launch ever higher?

  1. Avoid storing bad snack food in your locker or carrying candy in your pockets. This easy access spells disaster!
  2. Take a walk to avoid eating during mid-shift and late-shift slumps. Get away from the temptations for a few minutes and you’ll be surprised how much easier it is to resist!
  3. Eat breakfast. No matter what shift you work, eat a decent meal before starting work. Skipping this crucial meal usually leads to overeating later in the day.
  4. Drink water or another sugar-free beverage when possible. Hunger is often an imposter covering dehydration. Being dehydrated will make those cookies look even better!
  5. Bring a piece of fruit to eat on the way home from work, so you're not tempted to overeat at your next meal. If the temptations at work are too great, eat your fruit instead of cake, doughnuts, or other naughty snacks.
